Burdock Book Party

  • Birmingham Breadworks 2408 7th Ave S Birmingham AL 35233 (map)

Burdock Book Collective is an intersectional feminist bookstore coming soon to Birmingham. Burdock will also serve as a safe and radical community and organizing space for LGBTQ+ folks, people of color, immigrants, women, sex workers, poor folks, and many other marginalized communities. And the collective will eventually offer low to no cost counseling for people in need.

Join us for the Burdock Book Collective's FIRST EVER ARTS SHINDIG, BOOK EXTRAVAGANZA, community party and fundraiser event!

We will have HOMEMADE delicious PIZZA and the best ever Kombucha, donated by our good friends at Harvest Roots Ferments.

We will be screen printing snazzy book store designs on t-shirts, book bags and patches. We will be painting water colors for pen pals who are trapped in the cages of the prison industrial complex (a pen pal and book program is something we hope to facilitate and make space for when we open officially!). We will have an open MIC and an AMAZINGLY FUNNY MC that will keep you on your toes--Tabitha Dudley. We will have books to browse through. We will have all the materials to design and create BUTTONS! This is an ALL OUT creative, fun community event and we hope you join us! While there will be some things to take home, we are hoping to also accumulate some community made art for our first POP-UP Store day in September.

We want to tell you about the queer feminist bookstore we are envisioning and building, one that uplifts radical literature, one that encourages creative collaborations, one that is inclusive and welcoming and safe.

We also want to hear from YOU too! About what you want to see and hear and feel in a Birmingham Feminist Bookstore! There will be opportunities to share your thoughts through writing, reading, chatting and even drawing!

This is also acting as a fundraiser for Burdock Book Collective to get started!
The sliding scale ticket for this event is $15-50 dollars. We will also be accepting book donations of your favorite radical feminist literature.

***We want all the spaces we operate in to be accessible to everyone, so if you want to be there but can't come up with a donation, please reach out to us!!
